I was born in Yorkshire, UK with a thirst for adventure and the truth.
Even as a teen I spent time at boarding school in India, witnessed the transition to majority rule in South Africa at first-hand, and spoke up for the people of Hong Kong to the British Cabinet.
Graduating from Cambridge University with a First-Class Degree in Oriental Studies and Political Science, I headed to Singapore, home of my political idol Lee Kuan Yew, where I cut his teeth as a detective on the streets of the Lion City, before going on to work in Strategic and Scenario Planning for the Commissioner of Police and the Minister of Home Affairs.
More than a decade in Asia saw me deal with challenges as diverse as reviewing the Police Use of Force policy, handling large influxes of migrants, working to rebuild homes for earthquake victims in Pakistan, upgrading the skills of Singapore’s workforce to battle changing economic headwinds and working on counter-terrorism responses.
Back in London, I worked on the front-line of Westminster politics, helping Ministers develop and articulate policy solutions, deal with the British tabloids, and face-down TV and radio interviewers - all with the backdrop of the global financial crisis, including the reform of Britain’s pension system and the London G-20. A fierce political campaigner, I'd find myself engaging voters in social housing one minute and advising Cabinet members the next.
I then spent ten years with the World Bank Group in Washington, DC, leading the communications for the Financial Institutions Group at the International Finance Corporation - crisscrossing the globe dealing with a $16 billion portfolio, across 760 clients & 1,200 projects in 110 countries.
I developed strategic communication plans to deal with civil society and reputational risk, organized key events in countries as diverse as Uruguay, Ivory Coast, the West Bank and Burma, helped launch the world’s biggest Green Bond Fund, developed strategies to improve global trade and the rollout of new digital products.
I helped prepare senior leadership for meetings with the G-20 and World Economic Forum, as much as I helped entrepreneurs and farmers from the world's poorest countries tell their stories and build better lives.
Rather than just using public relations and a crisis response to deal with issues, I believe in working to tackle underlying issues, and developing plans to deal with them.
Now I am here to help you chart a better future.
